Churches Together in Cumbria set up the Social Responsibility Forum in 1995 to bring together representatives of denominations and of existing ecumenical groups working in the field of social responsibility. The Social Responsibility Forum aims to:
The Social Responsibility Forum meets 4 times a year: 3 business meetings and a discussion morning. The Convener of the Social Responsibility Forum is Susan Aglionby, a farmer at Houghton near Carlisle. She has been on the executive committee for Cumbria Youth Alliance, visited for victim support and assisted with riding for the disabled. Having lost all her stock in the foot and mouth crisis of 2001, Susan quickly restocked and completed organic conversion in 2003. She farms125 acres single handed, wonderfully supported by family, neighbours and students who come from near and far for work experience at The Croft. Susan is international adviser for Girl Guiding in Cumbria North; and is a foundation governor of Trinity School, serving on the pastoral committee. Each year Susan welcoms over 700 visitors to the farm, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for the connection between the food we eat and where it is produced. Susan worships regularly at Carlisle Cathedral. The Social Responsibility Forum's officer is Helen Boothroyd, Social Responsibility Development Officer.
