Hi Christian Aid Organisers
Once again apologies for a group email, and please could you pass this on to your local clergy, church reps and Christian Aid supporters. I have lots and lots of news for you…
You are all invited to come to St Thomas’ church in Kendal on Saturday 28th April 3-5pm for afternoon tea with Prospery Raymond. Prospery is the Haiti Country Manager and while he is in the UK for a meeting he has agreed to extend his trip to meet you! Prospery will be talking about how Christian Aid responded to the earthquake in 2010 and also Hurricane Matthew in 2016, as well as our ongoing work in communities and disaster-preparedness. He has been to Cumbria before and all that met him agree that he is an inspirational speaker, so come along and find out for yourself!
Come to the first ever Christian Aid North West conference
We are very excited that our new CEO Amanda Khozi Mukwashi will a key note speaker at our Stories Of Hope Conference on Friday 27th April in Manchester. The packed day of speakers and breakout sessions includes Bishop of Manchester, our new CEO Amanda Mukwashi, our Haiti country manager, Prospery Raymond and a range of topics including faith in politics, violence to peace, global neighbours, and campaigns. You can book your free place here (donation for lunch appreciated). I hope to see you there!
Pop along to see the Inherit the Earth photo exhibition
The Inherit the Earth photo exhibition shows how Christian Aid projects are helping indigenous people protect the land they’ve inherited, so they can pass it on to their own children. The exhibition shares stunning photos of the places and projects in Bolivia, showing the life-changing work taking place in the Amazon basin. The exhibition can be seen at:
The new e-envelope!!
We have dragged the little red envelope into the 21st century!! Coming very soon it will be available to deliver electronically! It will work best when its sent with a personal message, photo or video to people that you know share your values and support for their global neighbours in need. This is its first year and we are keen for as many people as possible to try it out, and please let me know what you thought of it and suggestions for how we can improve next year. It’s just in its final checks, but soon will be available at caweek.org/envelope to deliver your e-envelopes!
Run to Haiti with us
Does anyone in your church enjoy running or walking? Could they be asked to take on a challenge to be a part of the Christian Aid run to Haiti? All you have to do is make a pledge for a distance (during either May or Christian Aid Week) and set up a just giving page… then do the running (or walking)! And if this feels like too much then why not support me and the Westside Regional Team who have pledged over 700km between us – I’m running 100km in May!
The warm heart of Malawi in Cumbria
In March a group of supporters, including 5 from Cumbria, travelled to Malawi to see the work of Christian Aid’s partners. They would love to share what they have seen and witnessed with your church so please get in touch to book someone to preach or talk in your church. The visits included seeing the pigeon pea project supported by the Carlisle Diocese Bishop’s Harvest Appeal.
Lastly, I would LOVE to come to join you for whatever you are doing this Christian Aid Week. Whether it’s a coffee morning, house to house collection, Big Brekkies or concerts please allow me to gatecrash! And if you would like me to speak at the event I’d be more than happy to. Please drop me a note with where and when and if I’m free I’ll be there!
A huge thank you for all that you are doing to stand with the world’s poorest. Please get in touch if I can be of any help to you.
