Local strategic partnerships (LSP) are a method of increasing community involvement in the
local political process and in decision making about the local area and service provision. There is a local
strategic partnership in every part of the country. The LSPs include representatives from the public
services (e.g. health and local government), business, the voluntary sector, and community organisations.
Government guidance states that faith communities
should be represented on LSPs.
The local strategic partnerships work on policy on all major areas of public life and concern, e.g. housing,
employment, the environment,
health, crime.
There
are 5 local strategic partnerships in Cumbria:
Carlisle

Eden Local Strategic Partnership covering Eden Borough Council area.
Furness Local Strategic Partnership: covering Barrow Borough Council area.
South
Lakeland Local Strategic Partnership: covering South Lakeland District Council
area.
West

Council areas.
The faith community is part of the Community Empowerment Network in West Cumbria: see www.westcumbria.org.uk
